  • Who is a GEAR UP student?

Tates Creek Middle School GEAR UP students are ALL 7th & 8th grade students.  

  • What do GEAR UP students do/get?

These students get specialized services like: a paid membership to the YMCA Black Achievers program, the chance to be in NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship) and Theatre Club next year, college fieldtrips access to information about going to college, they take the EXPLORE test and much more. 

  • What does the school get?

The school gets funds (this is a federal grant) to carry out a plan to provide specific services and have events that are targeted at hitting one or more of the 5 priority areas-see them below. Teachers get professional development opportunities.  

The GUK Site Coordinator is at Tates Creek Middle ½ day on Wednesdays in the Youth Service Center
